PROSPECTIVE MEMBER INFORMATION - What’s in it for me?

 SIA members soon discover that the cost of joining the association can be offset by its many benefits.

 Being informed in advance of industry changes both technical and regulatory – the SIA are represented on the Australian  Standards committee BD/075 covering the Skylight Standard, AS4285 and the Bush Fire Code AS3959.

 The SIA is recognised by both State & Federal government agencies as the peak industry body.

 The SIA through its affiliation with peak fenestration body the Australian Window Association (AWA) is also indirectly involved  with the Building Code of Australia.

 The SIA is proudly a Member of the Australian Fenestration Rating Council (AFRC) and by having a seat of the Board of  same ensures issues impacting upon the Skylight industry can be addressed in advance of any changes.

By having input into standards, practices and legislation the SIA is well placed to control & influence decisions affecting our industry. The SIA holds regular meetings and listens & responds to members views.

Being part of third party accreditation – with the SIA acting as Manager of the AWA's Window Energy Rating Scheme for Skylights (WERSfS) the SIA have a NATA accredited program using an independent auditor.

The WERSfS program is the worlds leading skylight energy rating scheme based on NFRC protocols and allows for the Energy Rating of complete Skylight Systems, with computer modeling results being included on the WERS website. There is now a proposal to fund further development of Skylight Data Files within NatHERS, and eventual inclusion into whole of house rating systems such as AccuRate.

WERSfS Ratings will also allow manufacturers to advertise and promote STAR RATING LABELS that are fully compliant with Australian Government requirements when they are implemented.

The SIA’s initiatives over recent years have achieved significantly higher consumer and building industry awareness and appreciation of the importance that skylights can play in the comfort, security and re-sale value of a home.

Membership of SIA allows networking with a range of materials available from Supplier Members and skylight product from SIA Manufacturer Members.
